August 25th
I figured that while we are all on this beginning
blogging/picture kick I should try to update as much as possible :) So….
We started off this morning with a surprisingly good
breakfast in our hotel (they have a coffee/espresso machine!) Before heading
off to a tour with Gaberiel, a tour guide who has worked with Westmont students
for years. Hayley is in love with him and creepily stalking him.
He was AMAZING. We had to run to keep up with him, but he
lived up to the legend that he’s become with past students. He took us through
the castle and explained a lot of the context for the churches that we toured.
It was hilarious to hear him as he mocked the Czech people for trying to create
a history and traditions that don’t necessarily correlate with what actually
happened. But he also got us interested in our Nationalism class by explaining
how each country in Europe has such a common history within the Hapsburg Empire,
and because of that, each country has a much richer history that you’d normally
think. And after that, we got a chance to explore the main square in the city for lunch.
Finally, we went to a church on the grounds where John Hus
began sharing his ideals prior to Martin Luther and the beginnings of the
Reformation. The Pointers had us sing in the main chapel because the acoustics
were beautiful!
Now, were sitting in the breakfast room of the hotel and
making a group effort at blogging… Hayley says she “feels like she’s totally in
Europe now that were drinking espresso and blogging”. :)
